A blend of Portuguese and Chinese cultures Macau sits across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. An overseas territory until 1999 the ‘Las Vegas of Asia’ today has huge casinos where you can try your hand at the tables by night and by day explore the extravagant shops or take in the sweeping view from the top of the 338 metre high Macau Tower. Away from the modern there are some fabulous old colonial style buildings and distinctive black and white cobblestone pavements and squares.
